ISHAKU AMOGA TURBANNED AS AKU-WANU OF JUKUN JIMETA

The District Head of Jimeta, Alhaji Muhammadu Jauro Baba, on Friday turbaned Alhaji Ishaku Amoga as the new Aku-Wanu (Leader) of the Jukun Wanu community in Jimeta, Adamawa State.

The investiture ceremony, held at the Hakimi’s Palace, coincided with the annual Jukun Wanu Day celebration, adding cultural significance to the event.
In his charge, the District Head tasked the new leader with the responsibilities of fairness, justice, and respect for constituted authorities.
He emphasised the need for inclusive leadership, urging Aku-Wanu Ishaku Amoga to carry everyone along “irrespective of religious and tribal inclination” while fostering unity among his people.
The Jukun Wanu community in Jimeta has historically been known for fishing, canoe carving, millet and guinea corn farming, and local trading.
Their economic activities made them vital contributors to regional food security and river transport in pre-colonial times.
Their frequent interactions with the Bwatiye ,Fulani, and Hausa communities led to rich cultural exchanges, intermarriage, and shared markets, while their distinct identity remained rooted in kinship and ancestry.
In his acceptance speech,the new Aku-Wanu, Ishaku Amoga, expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his “purposeful leadership, commitment to peace, and support to traditional institutions.”
He also thanked the District Head of Jimeta and the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Barkindo Mustapha, for the honour bestowed upon him.
Amoga pledged to serve with “fairness, wisdom, and dedication,” assuring that his reign would witness peace, unity, and progress while steadfastly upholding the customs and traditions of the Wanu people.
The turbanning ceremony was followed by a grand reception featuring vibrant displays of cultural dances, celebrating the rich heritage of the Jukun Wanu community.
