Improvements in NPHCDA – ALGON pledges support

In its efforts towards boosting and improving the services of the Nation’s Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has pledged rendering its support for the Agency to survive.
The National President of ALGON, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata made the pledge while delivering a keynote address during a stakeholders meeting held at the Nation’s capital, Abuja.
Maifata, who was represented at the occasion by ALGON National Welfare officer, Dr. Aminu Jauro Hassan who doubles as the Taraba State ALGON chairman and chairman of Jalingo local government area said the 774 local government council chairmen in the Country are ready to collaborate with all critical Stakeholders for the survival of the Agency and for the benefit of the people.
Aminu Jauro Hassan who spoke exclusively with our Correspondent in Jalingo during a telephone conversation pointed out that ALGON across the country would showcase their leadership potentials and accountability in the implementation of their constitutional mandate towards a better governance at the grassroot level.

According to him, the crucial meeting was held to accelerate improvements in primary health care in Nigeria, with a focus on local government financial autonomy.
ALGON National Welfare officer who lauded the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (FMOHSW) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for organizing what he described as this significant event noted that during the ceremony, the Coordinating Minister of Health and social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate advocated for local government financial autonomy.
“The Minister emphasized that the government is focusing on enhancing Primary Health Care services to ensure quality and affordable health care delivery services at the grassroot level”, he added.
Executive Director (ED) National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, Hassan said, joined other critical stakeholders to discuss ways to enhance primary health care services in Nigeria.
“The meeting served as a platform for stakeholders to engage, share knowledge, and identify strategies to address the challenges facing primary health care in Nigeria”,
“The meeting was also aimed at Strengthening the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), and other developmental intervention projects which was established to improve access to primary health care services”,
“BHCPF and other developmental initiatives and interventions are catalysts for increasing the fiscal space for health and strengthening the national health system, particularly at the primary health care level”,
“The NPHCDA, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health, has been instrumental in developing primary health care in Nigeria since its establishment in 1992. The agency’s efforts have contributed significantly to improving the health and quality of life of Nigerians, especially in developing communities”,
“With local government financial autonomy at the forefront of discussions, stakeholders recognized the importance of effective resource management and allocation to achieve universal health coverage in Nigeria”, he added.
