“Hit and Run Driver” Kills Street Sweeper in Taraba

A street sweeper in the employment of the Operation Keep Taraba Clean, identified as Nemis Usman, has been reportedly killed by a hit and run driver in Jalingo, the Taraba State.
The woman, who was participating in the early morning cleaning, was crushed to death by the yet to be identified driver in the early hours of Thursday between the Road block and Mile Six along Yola Road.
Sources close to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Jalingo, confirmed that the woman died before she was rushed to the hospital.
Confirming the incident, the coordinator of Operation Keep Taraba Clean, Iliya Kefas, said efforts to track down the driver are in top gear.
The Taraba State Police Spokesperson the spokesperson, Gambo Kwache, said the Police are working round the clock to bring the perpetrator to book.
In the meantime, the Taraba State Government has condoled with the family of late Nemis Garba.
The condolence delegation was led to the residence of the deceased at Mile Six by the Chairman of the Palliatives Committee, Hon Sale Sa’ad.
While describing the deceased as a hard working member of operation keep Taraba clean, he prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
Responding on behalf of the Family, Mr Jatau Isaku thanked the delegation of the Taraba state Government for identifying with them at a time like this.
Late mama Nemis Garba died at the age of fifty five and left behind four children.
Cash was also presented to the family to help in reducing the difficulty of the family while preparing for the deceased’s burial.
Meanwhile, reacting to some reports in some sections of the social media by those he described as rumour peddlers on the non payment of those engaged in operation keep Taraba clean, Hon Sale Sa’ad described the allegations as baseless, unfounded and misleading.
He stressed that the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas is up to date in the payment of their monthly allowances.
