Hardships: Taraba Govt To Procure 10, 000 Metric Tons of Grains

The Taraba State Government is to procure ten thousand metric tons of grains to be sold to the masses at subsidized rates to cushion the current economic hardships.

This was announced by the Chairman of the Committee set up by the Taraba State Government for the procurement of grains, Professor Nicholas Nemesan who is the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in an interview shortly after inspecting the grains procured by the Government in some warehouses within the state.


The Taraba State Grains Procurement Committee delegation comprised the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs and Regional Development, Hon Savior Noku, the Permanent Secretary Bureau for Local Government,Traditions and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Godfrey Dame Andrew, the
Permanent Secretary of the Taraba State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs Sarah Ali, the Jalingo Local Government Council Chairman who is the ALGON Chairman in Taraba State, Dr Aminu Jauro Hassan and the Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Food Security, Hon Zannau Hassan Maikasuwa.


The contractor and other members of the team were led by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs and Regional Development, Hon Savior Noku, on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee who is the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas Nemesan.


The first point of call was the warehouse in Bali where they were conducted round by the Manager, Alabi Abdulrauf to inspect the quality of grains in the warehouse which is presently housing
about three thousand bags.

Questions were asked by the members of the committee and explanations were offered to the committee’s satisfaction.

The team later paid homage to the palaces of Kur Jibu Bali, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmud Adam and the Lamdo Bakundi, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa to inform the royal fathers on the laudable initiative of the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas for the people.


In their separate responses, Kur Jibu Bali, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmud Adam and the Lamdo Bakundi, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa, commended the Governor for introducing the policy which have direct bearings on the lives of the people.


The Committee members then proceeded to Garba Chede warehouse also in Bali Local Government Area where over two thousand bags of stacked grains are stored before moving to Jalingo, the state capital for similar exercises.

The Committee assessed the quality of the grains procured by the Government through the Committee at the Veterinary Clinic warehouse.


The Chairman of the Taraba State Grains Procurement Committee, who is currently equally overseeing the new Ministry of Tertiary Institutions, Professor Nicholas Nemesan,who led the inspection in Jalingo, said the Taraba State Government is targeting ten thousand metric tons of grains to be subsidized and sold to the masses in Taraba State during the hard times as was witnessed previously.

In his comments, the Taraba State Commissioner for Special Duties, Humanitarian Affairs and Regional Development, Hon Savior Noku said the State Government under Dr Agbu kefas is taking all measures to safeguard the lives of the people hence the Government’s directives for the relocation of all residents along riverine communities to safer areas.

On his part, the Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Council, Dr Aminu Jauro Hassan described the vision of Governor Agbu Kefas as unique for the people of Taraba State, particularly during such tough times, which will go along way in improving on the well-being of the people.


The contractor of the grains,Siki Daniels confirmed the good quality of the grains, saying only quality grains with special features healthy for human consumption that pass the test will be supplied to the targeted people.
