Group partners Taraba Govt to Tackle Drug Abuse

The Taraba Youth and Women Mobilization and Awareness Movement, TAYOWOMAM is collaborating with the Taraba state Government to tackle issues of drug abuse and social vices bedeviling the society.
As part of the move, the group on Monday hosted the Taraba Youth and Women Summit to discuss issues and profer solutions towards ending drug abuse, rape and other social vices.
In his opening remarks, the convener, Amb. Victor M. Bulus (Autan Zaki), said the meeting became pertinent because of the dire need to confront the pressing issues that threaten our community’s well-being and prosperity.
He stressed that crime knows no boundaries, and its consequences are felt far beyond its immediate victims, hence the need for a radical approach to tackle the issues before they consume us.
“As the future leaders and custodians of our society, it is incumbent upon us to address the scourge of crime, illegal possession of weapons, and substance abuse that plague our communities.
“Primarily, let us recognize that the path to progress begins with awareness. We must acknowledge the harsh realities that confront us daily – the impact of crime on our families, the proliferation of illegal weapons in our midst, and the devastating effects of substance abuse on our health and future prospects.
“Equally concerning is the rampant abuse of drugs and other substances among our peers. Addiction knows no bounds, and its grip can ensnare even the most promising among us. We must reject the false allure of temporary escape and instead embrace a future built on resilience, determination, and self-respect”, he said.
On illegal possession of arms, the Ambassador said is imperative to work in tandem with law enforcement agencies to stem the tide of illegal arms trafficking and ensure that neighborhoods remain safe havens for all.
The Ambassador commended the Women Coordinator of the team, Hon Christy Sabastine for her proactive approach each time she is needed to step in for the noble cause.
He applauded every member of TAYOWOMAM for the relentless efforts and commitment shown throughout the program and even before then, stressing that their efforts made the program a success as well.
Represented by Hon Nelson C Len, the Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas who commended the team for their timely intervention, also identified with the occasion and the core values for which the group stands.
He said the fight against crime is a continuous exercise and a very serious business, hence all hands must be on deck to ensure that the society is void of these social vices.
Recall that last Friday, the team while addressing a press conference in Jalingo, noted that significant progress has been made in sensitizing youths about the dangers of engaging in such activities through concerted efforts by the (TAYOWOMAM), and the Autan Zaki Global Foundation (AZAGOF), with various stakeholders and NGOs through the support of Taraba State Government.
