GPF BEGINS CAMPAIGN FOR REVERSAL OF THE NAME ADAMAWA TO GONGOLA STATE

The Gongola People’s Forum has announced that in its drive to ensure inclusivity and sense of belonging to all its people, the Socio-cultural movement has started a campaign for the reversion of the name of Adamawa to Gongola State.

GPF posited that GONGOLA was the name of the state when it was created on February 3, 1976 and the state existed until August 27, 1991 when it was divided into two States and was parochially renamed Adamawa state.
The Chairman of GPF, Engr. Markus Natina Gundiri dropped the hints during an interface with leaders and representatives of indigenous ethnic nationalities numbering about 100 in Yola, the Adamawa state Capital on Saturday.
Gundiri who was represented by Elder Maliki Daniel told the high-powered gathering that “GPF is irrevocably committed to justice, fair play and the peaceful coexistence of the society. We urge all men of goodwill from all backgrounds and other ethnic nationalities to join us build a society where in words of our National Anthem “no man is oppressed “.
“We as a people must commit ourselves to safeguarding our freedom and the protection of our newly gained autonomy in the running of our traditional affairs”.
The forum used the opportunity to congratulate the 7 newly appointed Chiefs and Emirs and admonished them to set such high standards of justice, equity and fair play in their respective Chiefdoms.
The Secretary General of GPF,Chief Barrister Leonard Nzadon while highlighting the journey so far of the movement called for total and holistic defend of creation of the 7 Chiefdoms and Emirates by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
“GPF is poised to defeat resources and politics of money. All aspiring politicians must cue into the movement. The change by the Governor must be defended”.
Nzadon argued that;
“Nobody was consulted for renaming of Adamawa, FUTY and many institutions, therefore the campaign for reversal has began”.
The Secretary General further called for massive sensitization among the ethnic nationalities irrespective of religious and tribal backgrounds for a formidable movement.
He announced the composition of various committees ranging from legal, Media, Contact and Mobilisation, Women, Research and Documentation, politics, Cultural and even Diaspora among others as a deliberate attempt to broaden the movement in actualizing the agenda for GPF.
