GPF Applauds Gov Fintiri For Creation of More Districts in Adamawa

The Gongola Peoples Forum, a socio-cultural group that cuts across ethnic nationalities has applauded the initiative of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for creating about 83 more Districts in Adamawa state.

In a release signed by the General Secretary of the forum, Chief Barrister Leonard D.Nzadon and made available to Newsmen in Yola the Adamawa state Capital, the group also extended its commendation to the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley and the entire leadership of the Adamawa State House of Assembly over the passage and signing into law, the Adamawa State Districts Creation Law 2024 as well as the scaling of the Chiefs Appointments and Deposition Bill 2024 which is awaiting the Assent of the Governor.
The statement further salutes the initiative, courage and sensitivity of the Governor for heeding to the yearnings of the ethnic nationalities of the state and enlarging their working space, adding that the gesture has emancipated the dream which has been swept under the carpet for over 42 years now.
“Today, the Governor has demonstrated that he is a leader who keeps his promises and puts the People first in his tireless attempts to reengineer and reinvent good governance in Adamawa State since it was created out of the defunct Gongola State in 1976 and later in 1991 split into two to create Taraba State.
“To us in GPF, your action in this matter is not only a welcome development but one of the biggest moments of victory for our People who dreamed for this day, worked for this day and patiently waited for it.
“Therefore to us, it is a dream come true and we congratulate you for a good and historic partnership with the House to give our People the best dividends of the year, 2024. 2024 has recorded you as the hero of the People you govern.
“We appreciate you and your team for the momentum your administration gathered since you assumed office as the elected Governor of the State. Your 11-point agenda in your first tenure was hugely successful notwithstanding the attempt by a clan of feudal czars through the institution of INEC in the State represented by her State Commissioner, Mr Hudu Yunusa-Ari to scuttle your second term bid which attempt was vehemently resisted by the People of the State. Your tenure will be remembered as the triumph of democracy”.
The statement further notes that;
“The Adamawa State House of Assembly on 10th December 2024 passed a Bill to repeal The Chiefs Appointments and Deposition Law which is now before your Excellency for Assent. Already, this laudable and highly progressive legislation has attracted the ire of inveterate and jaundiced opposition of a cabal that is bent on maintaining the unjust and primitive status quo. The critics argued in a ridiculously futile attempt to posit that your creation of new chiefdoms and districts will destroy the traditional institutions in the State. “We, the People of Adamawa State stand with you and state that giving our People the right to their self-determination is not synonymous with what our detractors claim as retrogression of our traditional institutions.On the contrary,this is the single most significant move of independence in our traditional administration since the end of Colonial Rule. It is breaking off the shackles of internal neocolonialism and granting freedom to our marginalized and oppressed peoples. It is righting the wrongs of burdens foisted on our people by the Colonial administration.
“We in GPF represent the aspirations of our People. Our core values are to unite our People, give them the power of self-determination, peaceful coexistence and development. This is a task we are committed to attaining with all men of goodwill from every ethnic nationality”.
