Gov Kefas Set to Rebuild Schools, Begins With GDSS Howai

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the education sector, announcing plans to commence the rebuilding of schools to create a conducive learning environment.
The governor made this known on Wednesday during an unscheduled visit to Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Howai, Miles Six, Jalingo.
Arriving at the school shortly after noon, he met with teachers as most students had already left for the day.
Inspecting the school’s structures and facilities, Governor Kefas expressed his readiness to restructure GDSS Howai and establish five more schools from it.
He emphasized the need for smaller class sizes, targeting 30 students per class to enhance learning.
“We are committed to rebuilding our schools, and we will start right here with GDSS Howai,” he stated, stressing the importance of attitudinal change among education managers and reviving monitoring and supervision mechanisms for effective learning.
Speaking after the visit, Commissioner of Education, Augustina Godwin, announced that youths from all 16 local government areas have been trained by Hydro Foam Brick Making Company and contractors handling the remodeling project—are set to begin work under the Ministry of Education’s supervision.
Despite unforeseen challenges that have slowed progress, the commissioner assured that the government remains committed to restructuring all schools within six months.
She further disclosed that data collection on primary and secondary school students and teachers is ongoing to guide the government’s education reform plans.
Governor Agbu Kefas’ initiative marks another step in his administration’s drive to elevate the standard of education in Taraba State.
