Five-Stars FC Wins 1st Edition of Adamawa State NUT Chairman’s Cup

Five-Stars Football Club of Yola emerged victorious in the finals of the inaugural Adamawa State Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Chairman Cup, defeating Luggere United 3-0 at the Federal College of Education (FCE) football pitch.

 

The tournament, featuring 26 teams, concluded in a festive atmosphere as spectators celebrated the impressive display of skills by young, talented footballers.

Five-Stars FC dominated the match, with Meshach Gutom breaking the deadlock in the second half with a brilliant double-dribble strike. Jerry Daniel extended the lead with another goal before a defensive error led to an own goal by Luggere United, sealing the victory.

Meshach Gutom, who scored the opening goal, was awarded the tournament’s highest goal scorer after the final whistle.

Following the match, jubilant supporters of Five-Stars FC celebrated as the team was presented with the championship trophy.

Additional prizes were awarded to individuals who contributed to the success of the competition.

In his post-match remarks, Comrade Faisal Mohammed, Adamawa State NUT Chairman and organizer of the tournament, commended the Local Organizing Committee, the Football Association (FA), and participating teams for a peaceful and successful event.

“The purpose of this competition is to unite youths, fostering interaction and the exchange of ideas,” Comrade Mohammed stated.

He also announced plans to expand the tournament to secondary schools in preparation for Nigeria’s upcoming inter-school football championship in two years.

The finals was graced by some dignitaries, including, Alhaji Adamu Baba Mustapha, representing the District Head of Yola; Alhaji Uba Bappah, former Chairman of Yola-North LGA; Abdullahi Umar Alkali, representative of the Commissioner for Housing; Labour leaders; and Comrade Wakil Kyari NUT Secretary, who led the union’s delegation.

The event marked a milestone in grassroots football development in Adamawa State, with hopes for even greater participation in future editions.
