FedPoly Bali Rector Meets With Casual Workers, Reiterates Commitment To Improve Welfare

In his determined efforts to create a sense of togetherness, the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Bali in Taraba State, Dr. Mohammed Usman, has met with casual workers of the institution.
At the meeting, the Rector reiterated the administration’s commitment to improve the welfare of the casual workers, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the polytechnic’s growth and development.
The interactive session was held at the institution’s Executive Lecture Theatre II on Tuesday , 25th November, 2025.
Dr Mohammed Usman stressed the need for the Coordinators to ensure the welfare of casual workers, whose duties as cleaners brought about hygiene and improved sanitary environment, saying without them the indoors and outdoors services wouldn’t have been possible.

The Rector expressed satisfaction with the commitments and dedication of the security personnel in safeguarding lives and properties of both staff and students, particularly in this era of serious security challenges with educational institutions as primary targets.
He commended hardworking staff and expressed disappointment with those exhibiting lackadaisical attitudes towards work.
The Rector also addressed security and sanitary challenges facing the institution, directing that measures be taken to tackle these issues.
He explained that only 60 percent of the promised wage increment was implemented due to financial constraints, but assured the workers that efforts were being made to secure more funds to implement the full 100 percent increment.
The Rector, emphasized the importance of stop and search including himself and any other member of staff, especially at the close of work.
He directed for immediate printing of Entry and exit permits to vehicle owners to safeguard theft of particularly motorcycles among other items.
A Senior Deputy Registrar, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim Baba, who is also the Focal Officer SERVICOM, welcomed participants to the interactive session, stating that its purpose was to identify areas of success and challenges, and to explore ways to improve the working conditions of the casual staff.

Other speakers at the event included the Coordinator of Security, Mallam Abubakar Maisaje, who briefed security personnel on leave application procedures.

Dr. Sani Abdullahi, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, who cautioned casual staff against financial mismanagement and conniving with senior staff or selective enforcement of the security rules especially when it concerns high ranking officers.
He warned that any security personnel found wanting would be severely dealt with.

The Chairman of Casual Staff, Mal. Hamid Hussain, urged the staff to redouble their efforts on punctuality and commitment to the service of the institution.
Some of the casual staff raised concerns regarding permanent and pensionable employment as well as access to medical facilities through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which the Rector addressed and clarified the institution’s stance.
The Rector disclosed that the casual staff are also beneficiaries of the medical services rendered by the Polytechnic.
He however, pointed out that the individual casual staff is the only beneficiary exclusive of his/her family members as applied to permanent staff.
The interactive session aimed to foster better understanding and cooperation between management and casual staff.
A cross section of the casual staff interviewed after the interaction expressed their appreciation for the concern shown to them by the Rector.
