FedPoly Bali: Civil, Building Engineering Technology Students On Excursion To Mambilla Beverages Nig Ltd

The students of the Civil Engineering/Building Technology Department of the Federal Polytechnic Bali in Taraba State have embarked on one day excursion to the Mambila Beverages Nigeria Limited, Kakara-Gembu, Tunga Dam and the 235km Bali – Sarti – Gembu Road construction site.
While explaining the farming and production of Highland Tea, Engr. Abubakar Ahmed said the highland Tea is a natural blend that undergoes processes without addition of any chemical and has a lot of health benefits.
He further explained that for the tea plant to grow, some factors are to be considered such as the altitude, soil terrain, optimal rain-fall and nursery.
He said that the tea plant can live a life span of 150 – 200 years.
At Tunga Dam, Engr. Abubakar Ahmed explained that the Dam is named after the community where it is located. i. e Tunga village.
He said the Dam has a capacity of about 10.26 cubic metre, it is a gravity Dam with an altitude of 1185.
According to him, there is no river supplying water to the Dam, saying it gets its water through annual run-off.
The height of the Dam is five (5) storey and supplies water to generate electricity being used by the Mambila Beverages Nigeria Limited.
It also supplies water for irrigation and consumption by the communities.
At the road construction site of the 235km Bali – Sarti – Gembu road, Engr. Auwal Abdulaziz, one of the resident engineers from the Federal Ministry of Works, explained that the project is for rehabilitation and reconstruction.
He added that along the hills, there are mostly retaining of bridges and drainages that were necessary, saying they have improved on them, adding that the scope of work include; Base, Sub-Base and Rearing course with a width of 7.3.
He further stated that from kilometre 135 to Gembu is road reconstruction.
Earlier, the Coordinator, Civil Engineering department, Naziru Nuri said, the excursion is an important part of academic experience, offering the students opportunity to explore real-life civil engineering installations and observe practical applications of what have been taught in class.
Such exposure is essential for deepening understanding and enhancing professional competence.
Naziru Nuri cautioned the students to remain disciplined, responsible, and be good ambassadors of the Federal Polytechnic Bali throughout the trip.
