As the August 16, 2025, bye-election draws near, the political tempo in Karim I constituency is reaching fever pitch. At the heart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign is a familiar face, Hon. Abdul Aziz Chulla, who is leading the team as Director General of the Campaign Council for Hon. Ali Kanda. In this exclusive chat with Echo Express, he shares insights on the campaign strategy, the candidate’s vision, and the issues that matter most to the people of Karim I.

Echo Express: It’s a pleasure to meet you, Honourable. Kindly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hon. Abdul Aziz Chulla: Thank you. I am Hon. Abdul Aziz Chulla, the Director General of the Campaign Council for Hon. Ali Kanda, the PDP candidate for the August 16 bye-election for the Karim I seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly.

Echo Express: What inspired you to take up the mantle as DG for this campaign?

Hon. Chulla: My appointment isn’t by chance — it’s a continuation of service. I served as DG during the successful campaign of Hon. Dr. Mike Dio Jen, who vacated the seat after his recent resignation. Back then, Hon. Ali Kanda was my Deputy DG. We worked closely, developed strategy together, and won the election. Today, Ali Kanda is the PDP candidate, and he could’ve chosen anyone to lead this campaign. But having seen my commitment, capacity, and our shared history of results, he opted to retain the structure that worked. That trust is not taken lightly.

This isn’t just about politics — it’s about loyalty, experience, and a shared vision for Karim I. We are a PDP family, and our collective goal is to deliver credible, people-focused representation to our constituency.

Echo Express: What are the core pillars of Hon. Ali Kanda’s campaign manifesto?

Hon. Chulla: Our manifesto is practical, people-oriented, and aligned with the vision of Governor Kefas, particularly in these key areas:

1. Education

Education is foundational. Just like our Governor, we believe in human capital development. Ali Kanda is committed to ensuring more support for public schools and expanding access, especially in rural communities where literacy levels remain low.

2. Agriculture & Youth Empowerment

Karim I is largely agrarian. Our farmers deserve more than rhetoric — they need real support. That’s why agricultural development is a central agenda. From modern mechanized farming techniques to youth involvement in agribusiness, we are pushing for programs that will build wealth and self-reliance. We’re also targeting training in advanced agricultural systems like hydroponics and agronomy, empowering our youth to be pioneers of modern farming.

3. Healthcare

We’re not just focused on building structures — we’re talking about staffing and functionality. Many of our primary healthcare centers lack adequate personnel. Our plan is to collaborate with the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency to deploy more trained staff to under-resourced clinics. Health shouldn’t be a privilege — it’s a right.

4. Youth and Women Development

Ali Kanda is deeply passionate about youth and women empowerment. We’re designing inclusive programs that engage young people and women in vocational training, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Idle hands breed insecurity. But empowered youths build stable communities.

5. Security and Community Safety

Karim Lamido borders six states — a logistical and security nightmare. The area has been vulnerable to cross-border crimes and communal clashes. Security is a top priority. With Ali Kanda in the House, we’ll push for stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies. Our goal is to establish micro-community security frameworks and ensure the voices of Karim I residents are heard loud and clear on the floor of the Assembly.

Echo Express: This sounds like a robust, strategic plan. Any final thoughts for the people of Karim I?

Hon. Chulla: Yes — this election is about the future of our constituency. It’s not just about party loyalty. It’s about leadership that listens, acts, and delivers. Hon. Ali Kanda has served with humility, loyalty, and results. He’s not coming in blind — he knows the terrain, the people, and the problems. I urge our people to vote for continuity, for competence, and for commitment. Vote Ali Kanda. Let’s build Karim I together.

Echo Express: Thank you for your time.

Hon. Chula: The pleasure is mine. Let the people lead.
