Ex Taraba Commissioner Condemns Attack On Tiv Communities in Donga, Takum

A former Commissioner for Works and later Finance, Dr Bulus Maiyaki, has condemned in strong terms the recent attacks and burning of churches in Tiv communities of Donga and Takum Local Government Areas of the state.

Dr Maiyaki who spoke to newsmen on Monday in Jalingo through telephone, insisted that the killings must stop.
He expressed concern over the incessant attacks on Tiv communities in the two local government areas in recent times, calling on all stakeholders to put heads together to end the menace.
The former Commissioner appealed to Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State as well as the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council in the state to wade into the crisis with the view to proffering lasting solution to the conflict.
He also stressed the need to engage the traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders for the purpose of peace building with the aim to prevent re-occurrence of such acts in the area.
The former Commissioner who served during the Jolly Nyame administration, advised the attackers to stop the killings and present their grievances to the appropriate authorities for redress.
” I am worried by the continuous attacks, maiming, killings and destruction of property by a group of people who have not come out to tell the public what has been their grouse against Tiv in Donga and Takum.
“This killings must stop and I am advising the perpetrators to sheath their swords and present their grievances to the authorities for redress.
“I am calling on Dt Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, our Traditional rulers as well as the CAN and Muslim Council in the state to intervene in this matter with the view to proffering a lasting solution to these conflicts,” Maiyaki pleaded.
It would be recalled that Suspected Fulani militia killed 25 people and destroyed churches on Sunday in Donga and Takum Local Government Areas in Taraba State.
