Engage the services of ICAN – Ibro Bala tells Gov Kefas

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has reiterated the need for Governments at all level to always engage the services of its members for stability and meaningful revenue generation.

ICAN in Taraba State specifically called on Governor Agbu Kefas to employ its members in some Ministries like Finance, Budget and Economic Planning and state revenue service.
Ibro Bala, Chairman Jalingo and District Society of the State branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN) made the call while fielding questions from Journalists shortly after the association’s End of 2024 Dinner and Award night held at Grand Shield Hotel, Jalingo the state capital.
Describing Chartered Accountants as trained professionals who according to him are capable of managing governments’ economy, Bala said, professionalism is the only way to go.
He said ICAN respect, and honour their integrity by being accurate as professionals hence their motto; ‘Integrity and Accuracy’.
“The services of Chartered Accountants are highly recommended in every sector of the economy because they are trained professionals who can also boost the revenue services of the state and the nation”,
“Professionalism is actually the way to go in every aspect of life, human endeavour, it brings about standard, organization, it’s all about result oriented”,
“We are experienced and professionals and so, we play the major roles in ensuring that the revenue is being generated”.
Also speaking in an interview, Chief Akpa Paul Hassan, Bursar of Federal University Wukari (FUW), one of the Awardees advised all levels of governance to always look for professionals.

Hassan said the right people that have the right training are expected to be employed to man financial matters, saying that’s where the country/state will have it right.
While expressing dismay at situations where positions are given to people who are not professionals in certain fields, Hassan said when such people are put in such positions, the idea of doing the right thing will not be there. “And that’s where the problem starts”,
“All level of governance, I will advise that they should always look for professionals, the right people, those who have the right training should be the ones to handle financial matters, and that’s where will get it right”, he added.

Our Correspondent reports that Jalingo and District Society of ICAN organized an end of 2024 dinner and award night in Jalingo where they honoured about 9 members who distinguished themselves and contributed to the growth of ICAN.
