EDNAH TITUS EMERGES CHAIRPERSON NLC WOMEN COMMITTEE IN ADAMAWA STATE

Comrade Ednah Titus Justine of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Adamawa State Wing, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Committee Council in Adamawa State.

Her emergence, alongside other executive members, came through a consensus during the 6th NLC Congress and National Gender Conference election held at the Labour House in Yola.

Comrade Ednah, formerly, Secretary of the Women Committee emerged with, Comrade Julietta Emmanuel as Vice-chairman, Secretary, Comrade Taimawu Chumaro, Assistant Secretary, Comrade Lydia Bitrus, while the positions of
EX-OFFICIOs goes to Comrades Alice Monday and Jennifer Gideon

The Returning Officer, Comrade Talatu Ali, a National Officer of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), announced the new executives and praised the contestants for their maturity during the exercise.

She congratulated the outgoing Chairperson, Comrade Alice Tadawus, for successfully leading the committee for eight years.

Comrade Talatu Ali conveyed the greetings of the NLC National President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, reiterating the Congress’s dedication to gender equality and the protection of workers’ rights, particularly for women.

*”The Congress is committed to the issue of gender equality and the protection of the rights of all workers, especially women workers. This aligns with our gender policy, as well as other national and international instruments, treaties, and frameworks for gender justice and the empowerment of women at all levels,”she said.

In her acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairperson, Comrade Ednah Titus Justine, promised to sustain the committee’s progress and thanked the Adamawa State Labour leadership for their consistent support.

The NLC Adamawa State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, urged the new executives to uphold the spirit of sacrifice in the labour movement, acknowledging the affiliates for their solidarity in advocating for Nigerian workers.

Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of various unions, including: Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Faisal Mohammed,
Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria,Comrade Usman Babbada,
Trade Union Congress (TUC) & Women Committee, Represented by RATTAWU

The Congress, themed *”Accelerate Action for Achieving Gender Equality,”* was attended by key labour leaders, including: Coordinator, Labour School, Comrade Peter Mele.

Others include Affiliate Leaders,
Comrade Fxenty Sanda Jonathan (JUSUN), Comrade Steven Agongtara (NULGE) among others.

The event highlighted the NLC’s continued push for gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment in the labour sector.
