Democracy Day: Taraba Gov Salutes Citizens, Says Future is Bright

The Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has congratulated the nation on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Democracy Day.

In a Press Release signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Mr Emmanuel Bello, the Governor remarked that democratic norms have come to stay in spite of challenges.
Dr Kefas salutes all democrats who have continued to deepen the experience throughout the nation’s history, restating that the labours of the heroes past shall never be in vain.
The Governor also noted the various contributions to nation-building, stressing that “Rome was not built in a day”, urging Nigerians never to give up hope but continue to respect democratic ideals to strengthen institutions of governance.
Speaking on developments in Taraba State, Dr. Kefas said the future is bright as progress is being made.
He stressed that constructive criticisms done in an atmosphere of freedom is a major plank on which democracy stands, adding that the peace and security enjoyed in the state has afforded some politicians the environment to come back and freely express their thoughts.
He said, “Jalingo and environs weren’t safe at a time with all the kidnappings and inner city criminality. I’m happy that the state is now safe enough, through our hard work, for some people to come, stay, and freely expressed their minds.
“That’s one of the progress democracy has brought to us.”
He noted that securing the state has been a major challenge, but the success story has placed the state as a veritable haven for investments.
Dr. Kefas further said he believes more in action than words, stressing the need for proper foundations for any meaningful development.
He said that as a strategic planner, he prioritises strong groundwork for meaningful progress and not a rushed up job just to score immediate political points.
The Governor said while the people applaud matters, it is posterity that can adequately judge his tenure.
“We are not in a hurry. I talk less and plan more. If after four years of our first tenure we haven’t delivered, then we can be assessed better.”
Consequently, Dr. Kefas said he is excited to announce that the state now has a master plan on which all the necessary infrastructure can be built on.
According to him, it was worth the wait to do things properly that will last, especially the construction of roads and bridges across the state and the exploration of mineral resources.
The Governor assured the state that all that they desire shall be done, stressing the need for patience in statecraft.
He said qualitative progress requires deep planning and hard work that is often seen as taking too long but in the end pays off handsomely, saying Taraba State will continue to experience accelerated growth in the coming months to the delight of the citizens.
