Prominent Nigerians, including Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, have praised the late former Deputy Governor of the State, Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, as a champion of justice, unity, and progress.

During a special court session held in his honour at the Ceremonial Hall of the High Court Complex in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori, represented by State Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the distinguished law professor, stating that Utuama lived a life dedicated to service, scholarship, and justice.

“We gather today with heavy hearts but profound respect to honour the life and legacy of Professor Amos Agbe Utuama, SAN, an exceptional legal mind, statesman, and former Deputy Governor of Delta State,” the Governor said.

“As an academic, his contributions significantly shaped legal education in Nigeria. In his roles as Attorney General and later Deputy Governor, he served with integrity, humility, and a commitment to unity and development.

“His legal brilliance played a crucial role in securing historic advancements for the Niger Delta, including the 13% derivation fund.”

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that Utuama was not only a leader but also a mentor, a wise counsellor, and a loyal party member.

The governor further stated, “His unwavering love for Delta State remained strong, even during periods of ill health.

Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, remarked, “Professor Utuama’s integrity led him to become a Professor of Law, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and Deputy Governor of Delta State for two consecutive terms.”

He added, “His life journey resembled a well-argued case: structured, deliberate, and impactful. Though he has now rested his pen and concluded his earthly existence, his legacy will continue to resonate in courtrooms, classrooms, and corridors of power.”

Legal luminaries from across the country, including the Asagba of Asaba and Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, attended the ceremony.

Professor Amos Utuama served as Delta State Deputy Governor during the administration of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan from 2007 to 2015.
