Defection: I will Continue To Govern With Transparency, Equity, Inclusion – Taraba Gov

From Lynn Adda

The Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has assured the people of the state that his movement from the Peoples Democratic Party, Party PDP to the All Progressive Congress, APC is in the overall interest of the state and its development.

Gov Agbu Kefas

He was speaking at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo the state capital during a civic reception organised to mark his official defection to the APC.

“Let me be clear: I have moved from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Some have called this “defection.”
Others have called it “Self preservation.”
Some say it’s about ambition. But I say to you it is about the mission. I did not make this decision lightly. I did not make it for comfort. I made it with full awareness of the burden I carry as a servant of the people”.

The Governor stressed that this move is not for himself but for the people of Taraba State.

“It is for the hungry child, the farmer without access, the youth without opportunity, the trader without security.

“I did not come into politics to be blind to reality. We must align to deliver what matters most to the people; jobs, roads, schools, security, investment, unity.

“We cannot afford isolation. We cannot afford gridlock.

“Taraba must be plugged into the centre to benefit from the policies, programs, and presence of government; State and Federal.

“Yes, I have heard the voices.
“Yes, another governor joining APC.”
“Yes, he is in his first term.”
“Yes, it is political calculation.”

“Let me assure you: I am not here for survival. I am here for service. I will continue to govern with transparency, equity, and inclusion. I will remain connected to you, the people, every tribe, every ward, every local government.

“I will not abandon our mandate.
Instead, I will strengthen it. I will continue to engage you constructively.
Not through insults, but through results.
Not through fanfare, but through fulfillment”.

Dr Agbu Kefas spoke about his love and patriotism for Taraba State and the nation, Nigeria.

“I have served this nation in uniform.
I have risked my life across conflict zones. I know what it means to put the country first. That discipline and patriotism still guides me”.

In President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Governor said he sees a man who understands the weight of leadership.

“In the APC, I see a national platform where we can speak with one voice to solve real problems. In my fellow Progressive Governors, I see partners, not rivals. We are aligning not to chase titles, but to chase solutions. We are moving not for gain, but for growth.

“To the people of Taraba: This movement does not erase our past. It reaffirms our promise. Our five-finger agenda will continue: Security & Safety, Free and Quality Education, Youth Empowerment & Job Creation, Infrastructure and Energy, Environmental Stewardship. To our youths this is your future. To our elders your wisdom remains our compass. To our partners this is a new era of development”.

In Closing, the Taraba State Governor has words for the PDP, APC, Tarabans and Nigerians.

“To the PDP, I say thank you for the platform. To the APC, i say thank you for the opportunity and handing us the broom. We shall sweep away every trace of poverty, division, and backwardness. To my fellow Nigerians, I say Taraba is open for progress.

“Let history record: We did not move for politics, we moved for posterity. We did not shift for power, We shifted for purpose.

“Today, I officially declare my movement to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Not with bitterness. But with boldness. Not with ambition. But with accountability. Not for myself. But for Taraba”.
