Climate change: Taraba AFAN commences sales of save 80 Cooking stove

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Taraba State Chapter, on Tuesday commenced the sales of climate change, save 80 clean cooking stove.
Hajiya Laraba Amina Abdul (WAMBAI), the state chairperson of the association noted during the flagging off ceremony in Jalingo that the Save 80, cooking stove initiative was to reduce the effects of climate change brought about by pollution from human and industrial activities and deforestation.
She disclosed that the initiative was a partnership of AFAN’s National Headquarters with ATMOSFAIR CLIMATE & SUSTAINABILITY LTD, to reduce the effects of climate change.
“In seeking collaboration with investors, the AFAN National Headquarters Abuja, went into partnership with ATMOSFAIR CLIMATE & SUSTAINABILITY LTD, Headquarters in Kano to release this brand of cooking stove call Save 80, to reduce the effects of climate change brought about by pollution from human and industrial activities and deforestation.
“As important as this brand of stove is, only 12 states in Nigeria were selected as pilot states. Taraba and Bauchi States were among the states selected in the northeast.
“The advantages of this stove are numerous. It is climate friendly. it uses minimal amount of charcoal. Users shall in due course be trained on how to produce briquette from wastes products such as stubbles, wood dust from carpenter’s shops, and saw mills.
“It saves money as users require small amount of charcoal/firewood as sources of energy. Saves up 80% of fire wood/charcoal as compare to conventional stoves. It is less smoky, Cooks any kind of food very faster.
“It is durable. It can last for more than 15 years. It comes with the following accessories:, Two aluminum pots and One wonder box which serves to preserve the hotness of cooked foods, and also preserve coldness of ice block for nearly 44 hours”. The AFAN state chairperson explained.
Hajiya Laraba called on Tarabans to patronize the product, especially now that a law banding Charcoal is in place.
She commended governor Kefas for his passion for good governance, and appealed for government patronage as the product’s features are in line with the policy trust of Kefas’ administration.
The AFAN state chairperson appealed to governor Kefas to provide AFAN with Mobility for easy running of the organization, office accommodation and funds to support the organization in its services to the farmers.
Meanwhile, Alhaji. Aminu Jauro, the Jalingo local government chairman and Chairman of the occasion, expressed that the initiative was a modern idea targeted at climate resilience.
Jauro called on citizens to patronage the product in other to meet with the impending challenges of climate change.
Earlier, Dr. Julius Philip Yani, of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management, Taraba State University, in a paper titled, “Combating Climate Change with Clean Cooking: The “Save 80, expressed that the Save 80 Initiatives, supported by Atmosfair,- A German-based organization is aims to prevent communities from harmful cooking practices to clean alternatives and proposes to save 31,000 tonnes of CO, per year. An efficient innovation that saves 80% of energy, reducing indoor air pollution and deforestation and enables fewer expenses for household energy.
“By using Save 80 Clean Cooking Stove we can reduce deforestation by decreasing the demand for firewood and charcoal. We can protect our forests and mitigate climate change and improve air quality” The paper reflected.
