Clerics Urge Leaders To Unite To Address Root Causes of Conflicts

Imam Dr. Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa and Reverend Dr. James Movel Wuye of the Interfaith Mediation Centre in Kaduna State have strongly condemned the recent killings of civilians traveling back to Kano State and attacks on communities in Plateau State.
In a press statement, they urged calm and restraint, calling for immediate action to address the situation.
“We are deeply saddened and condemn in the strongest possible terms the senseless attack and the resultant loss of innocent lives,”
The duo expressed their thoughts and deepest condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Kano State, and all Nigerian citizens.
They cited Quran 5:32, “Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely… “and Matthew 5:21-22, “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.'”
The religious leaders urged all parties to exercise utmost restraint and refrain from actions that could escalate the situation.
They emphasized the need for a thorough and impartial investigation to bring perpetrators to justice.
The statement further explained “Ensure continued enlightenment of the youth to avoid stereotyping and derogatory name-calling. Also Support platforms for dialogue and reconciliation among communities in conflict. Strengthen early warning and response mechanisms with adequate security measures.
