Clergy Charges Christians to “Prepare the Way of the Lord”

Rev. Fr. Abraham Godwin Yahaya, priest in charge of St. John the Baptist Pastoral Area, Janibanbu, Nukkai, Jalingo in Taraba state has delivered a clear message on the Second Sunday of Advent (Year A), urging Christians to embrace true spiritual preparation.
He reminded the congregation that Advent is not about external preparations for Christmas, but about inner renewal.
While many people focus on clothes, food, travel, and celebrations, he said the true meaning of Christmas is often missed.
Quoting John the Baptist “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near”, Fr. Yahaya explained that preparing the way of the Lord means transforming the heart, not building physical roads.
He encouraged the faithful to remove anger, bitterness, lying, cheating, sexual immorality, and injustice from their lives, saying these are the obstacles that hinder Christ from dwelling within.
He stressed that Christmas is not mainly about festivities but about repairing one’s life and returning to God.
Fr. Yahaya prayed that as Christians await the birth of Christ, God will help them welcome Him sincerely and with purity of hearts.
