Chelsea Doing Well in the 2024-2025 Season
By Tanko Bauka
Chelsea’s fine run in the 2024-2025 season of the English Barclay Premier League continue with yet another impressive performance by coming from 2-0 to beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 to snatch a valuable 3 points in the week 15 encounter to close the gap at the top of the league table to four points.
Tottenham Hotspur began the match on a brighter note as they scored two quick goals in succession following a double slip by Chelsea left-back Cucurella and on both occasions, Tottenham Hotspur capitalised to score through Dominic Solanke in the 5th minute and Dejan Kulusevski six minutes later to send the fans in frenzy jubilation but Jadon Sancho through a solo effort, pull one goal back to reduce the deficit for the visitors before half time.
On resumption of the second half, Chelsea took control of the game, pilling up the pressure, and their dominance paid off as Yves Bissouma was forced to commit a foul, and the resultant penalty was converted by Cole Palmer to level up the scores.
In the 73 minutes, Enzo Fernandez silenced the thunderous Tottenham Hotspur fans with a spectacular goal to make it 3-2 before Cole Palmer yet again converted another penalty to make it 4-2.
Tottenham Hotspur Captain, Heung Min Son pulled one back for the home team in the 96 minutes ending the match 4-3.
Chelsea has now climbed up to the second position in the league table, four points adrift of Liverpool, whose match with Everton was postponed due to severe weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh.
Arsenal and Manchester City both missed the chance to take advantage of the postponement of the Everton- Liverpool match to close the gap on the league leaders as they were held 1-1 and 2-2 draws by Fulham and Crystal Palace, respectively.
AFC Bournemouth continues to spackle as they snatched yet another three points from Ipswich Town, coming from one goal down to win 2-1, while Aston Villa secured three points in their encounter with Southampton at Villa Park, winning by a lone goal.
On the other hand, the woeful performance by Manchester United continued as Ruben Amorim suffered his second defeat in the Barclays Premier League, this time at the hand of Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest had not in 30 years beaten Manchester United in their backyard, Old Trafford, but this time, they capitalised on the mediocrity and the decay at Manchester United to inflict yet more pain on the Manchester United faithful who are yearning for the return of the old glory.
No doubt Ruben Amorim is a good coach, but he has a big task and a tall mountain to climb before he turns things around for the red devils to click yet again.
In the Spanish LA Liga, Real Madrid capitalised on FC Barcelona’s slip to cut the gap between them to two as they beat Girona 3-0 with goals from Jude Bellingham, Arda Guller and Kylian Mbappe after FC Barcelona were forced to a 2-2 draw by Real Betis.
Real Madrid still has an outstanding match against Valencia, which has been rescheduled to 2nd January -2025, while Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid all picked up three points.
Napoli were beaten 1-0 by Lazio, a result that gave Atalanta, which had earlier defeated AC Milan 2-1, the advantage to overtake Napoli on top of the league table.
Inter Milan continues to mount pressure as they dispatch Parma 3-1, while AS Roma picked up their first win under Claudio Ranieri.
In the German Bundesliga, the Bayern Munich leader continue their dominance with a comfortable 4-2 win against Heidenheim with Bayern Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Wolfsburg and Stuttgart all recording an impressive win.
