CAN TARABA INAUGURATES DIRECTORATE-BASED COMMITTEES

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State has inaugurated its new Directorate Based Committees at an event held at the CAN Secretariat Jalingo.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of CAN, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Williams Peter Awoshiri, described the inauguration as a “strategic institutional milestone” and a renewed covenant of service.
“This is a deliberate commitment to strengthening the unity, effectiveness, and credibility of CAN in the State,” Awoshiri stated.

He charged the newly inaugurated members to lead with humility, act with wisdom, and protect the integrity of the Christian institution.
The Secretary of the Association outlined the Terms of Reference for the new committees, noting that these guidelines define the ethical standards, reporting lines, and expected outcomes for each directorate.
He stressed that the ToR are not mere administrative hurdles but a call to “disciplined service and collective responsibility.”
Speaking on the broader vision of the reforms, Bro. Shombi Ibrahim noted that these changes are designed to position CAN in Taraba State for long-term relevance.
He urged the directors and committee members to recognize that their current choices are shaping the future of the organization.
The formation of the Directorate-Based Committee is part of a deliberate reform process designed to strengthen CAN’s internal governance, improve operational efficiency, deepen participation across blocs and wings, and enhance the Association’s overall impact within the Church and the wider society.
Members of each committee are carefully selected to represent the various demographics within CAN and the Directorates are 5 in number; namely:
1. Directorate of Ecumenism and Inter-Faith Relations, which fosters unity and inter-denominational dialogue. To safeguard the association’s integrity and image.
2. Directorate of Legal and Public Affairs, which manages all legal and communication matters.
3. Directorate of National Issues and Social Welfare, which leads humanitarian advocacy and ethical governance.
4. Directorate of Education, Youth and Women Development, which focuses on human capacity building and moral formation.
5. Directorate of Planning, Research and Strategy, which provides the data-driven vision and strategic planning necessary for the organization’s long-term effectiveness.
The session concluded with a charge to the new appointees by Fr Awoshiri: “May your service reflect the values of Christ, strengthen the unity of the Church, and advance the mission of CAN in Taraba State.”
