CAN Jalingo Marks Nigeria’s Independence Day, Inaugurates New Leaders

The Jalingo Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Wednesday marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary with a combined service and the inauguration of newly elected officials.
The event, themed “The Yearning for a Different Dawn,” was held at the CAN Secretariat in Jalingo, Taraba State.
Prayers and blessings for the new officials were led by Bishop Jechonia Gilbert and Apostle Sunday Udoh Rufus.
In his keynote, Rev. Dr. Victor Audu described the situation in Taraba as difficult, citing crises, unemployment, and suffering, but urged citizens to contribute to positive change.

New CAN Chairman, Rev. Fr. Dr. Williams Peter Awoshiri, said his election was by God’s grace and lamented disunity among Christians caused by self-interest and divisions.
He urged politicians to prioritize citizens’ welfare and called for cooperation between Christians, Muslims, and other faiths in promoting peace.
Fr. Awoshiri also announced plans to turn the CAN Secretariat into a centre for Christian unity, youth training, and interfaith activities, appealing for support to upgrade the facility.
