In the political landscape of Adamawa State, one name is being whispered, then spoken aloud, as the embodiment of this born leadership: Calvin Thaanda Rubainu (Galadima Lunguda)
A true son of the soil from Boshikiri in Guyuk Local Government Area, Rubainu’s journey from the executive halls of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), now Company Ltd, to the political forefront of Adamawa South is a powerful narrative of preparation meeting purpose.
After a distinguished 35-year career, culminating in the role of General Manager , Headquarters, accounts Department Abuja (2018-2020), General Manager Federation Accounts Department, Abuja (2020-2022).
But for this accomplished accountant/auditor, retirement was not an end; it was the beginning of a higher calling.
That calling, as he humbly states, was not self-manufactured. It is a resonant appeal from the grassroots, a summons from the people across the nine local government areas of Adamawa South, particularly, his country home Guyuk.
They have witnessed his quiet impact for years and now seek his dedicated representation.
Long before any formal declaration, Calvin Thaanda Rubainu was already building a legacy of service.
His philanthropic endeavours, particularly service to humanity in form of health, support for widows, orphans, education and community development, are well-known in his homeland.
Through scholarships for the bright but underprivileged and funding for critical projects, he has consistently invested in the zone’s most valuable resource: its people.
This drive to give back is deeply personal, inspired by the scholarship opportunities he received as a student at the Federal Government College, Port Harcourt and University of Maiduguri from the then governments of the Federal/North East/Gongola-an experience that taught him the transformative power of investment in human potential.
Now, he aims to translate that ethos of empowerment to the senatorial level.
His vision is clear: to reinvent and re-energize Adamawa South by drawing inspiration from the playbook of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Rubainu speaks admiringly of the Governor’s twin pillars of legacy: inclusive recognition and urban renewal.
He sees the creation of new chiefdoms not just as an administrative act, but as a profound liberation and emancipation of ethnic nationalities, giving them a voice and a sense of belonging.
Furthermore, the ambitious urban renewal projects that have earned Governor Fintiri national acclaim serve as a blueprint Rubainu intends to recommend for the senatorial district, focusing on rural infrastructure to bridge the development gap between urban and rural communities and for easy movement and evacuation farm produce.
“Leadership is about understanding the rudiments of governance, yes, but more importantly, it is about understanding the plight of the people,” he often says.
This profound understanding is what positions him as a unique candidate and indispensable personality.
He is a cosmopolitan professional, seasoned by decades at the highest level of Nigeria’s corporate world, yet he remains deeply connected to the realities of rural life in Adamawa.
He is as comfortable discussing fiscal policy in Abuja as he is addressing the challenges of farmers in Ganye, Toungo, Guyuk, Shelleng, Jada, Mayo-Belwa, Lamurde, Numan, or entrepreneurs in Demsa.
As 2027 approaches, the political conversation in Adamawa South is logically shifting towards the Guyuk axis, where the senatorial representation began in 1999 with Senator Silas Zwingina.
The succession has since moved through Numan (Grace Bent), Shelleng (Ahmed Barata), Ganye (Ahmed Abubakar), and is currently in Mayo-Belwa (Senator Binos Yaroe).
The pendulum of zoning is now swinging back to Guyuk, completing a fair and equitable cycle.
This makes the argument for Calvin Thaanda Rubainu not just compelling, but timely.
He is not a candidate merely waiting for an election; he is a servant answering a call, ready to deploy a lifetime of preparation for the people of Adamawa South.
The goal is not just to represent, but to reinvent.
