Borno Flood: Christian Youth Initiative, Sympathises With Victims, Call For Urgent Support

The Christian Youth Initiative, CYI has expressed deep concern by the recent devastating flood that ravaged most parts of Maiduguri, Borno State following the tragic overflow of Alau water damage due to heavy rains.
The Organization expressed its feelings in a Press Statement signed by the Chairperson, Mrs Comfort Sale, a copy of which was obtained by Echo Express in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital.
Titled, ” Heartfelt Sympathy and Call for Action for Victims of Maiduguri Flooding”, CYI stressed that the devastation faced by the affected communities is unimaginable, with homes, livelihoods and lives lost.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all the victims and their families during this extremely difficult time.
“In this time of hardship, it is important that we come together as a community to offer support and comfort to those in need”.
The Statement therefore appealed to the government, humanitarian organizations, and well-meaning individuals to step forward with immediate support, noting that urgent assistance is needed in the form of shelter, food, clean water, and medical care for the displaced families.
“It is essential that we stand in solidarity with the Government and the People of Borno State and offer every possible form of relief.
“We commend the Governor Prof Babagana Umara Zulum’s Led administration for the efforts to relocate displaced residents ongoing, and also the swift response of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for opening three Internally Displaced People Camps to accommodate those affected.
“We also call on the Northeast Governors to follow the example of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his timely gesture of providing relief materials to the flood victims in his neighboring state. By working together, we can help ease their suffering and aid in the recovery and rebuilding of their communities”.
To guard against such disasters in future, the CTI urged government at all levels to take proactive steps to prevent such disasters, stressing the need for comprehensive measures, such as improved infrastructure, regular dam maintenance, and early warning systems to be put in place to mitigate the risk of similar occurrences.
“Let us all stand in solidarity with the victims during this difficult time, offering not only our thoughts and prayers but also the practical support that will help them rebuild their lives”.
