Bissaula Crisis: Security Committee Assesses Damages

The Security Taskforce Committee set up by the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas to assess the damages done to critical infrastructures as well as resettle the Bissaula community in Kurmi local government area of the state has visited the area.
The on the spot assessment visit was to ascertain the situation and come up with a comprehensive report on how the government will leverage the situation.

The members embarked on the tour of properties destroyed during the crisis that rocked the area sometime ago where they expressed shock over the level of destruction done to properties.
Mostly affected are schools, clinics, markets, the town hall, motor park and the palace of the traditional ruler.
Also destroyed are the offices of security agencies and their residences among others.
The Security Taskforce which is saddled with the responsibilities of taking stocks of damage to done government property and members of the community to enable government respond appropriately has top government functionaries as members.
Speaking during the assessment visit, the Secretary of the Taskforce Committee who is also the Secretary, Home Affairs and Special Services in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the State, Mr Koku Agbu Koku said the committee was giving two mandates.
The short term plan is to assess the modalities for providing immediate security, water and other necessities of life to the people while the long term plan is to look at the damages done to critical infrastructures with a view to reporting to the government for necessary action so as to give the people a sense of belonging.
According to him, the warm reception accorded members of the Taskforce Committee is a clear indication that the people of the community want peace, adding that the people must learn how to co-habit peacefully, irrespective of religious beliefs, ethnicity or political affiliation for the development of their community.
Some of the members of the Committee who bared their minds, said the assessment visit has given them a clear picture of the damages done in the area, pledging that the committee will do a thorough job for the benefit and development of the area.
They tasked the affected people to eschew all forms of bitterness and bickering and forge a common front for the growth and good of the area, advising all the groups to engage in dialogue to solve whatever problems or challenges confronting them.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Kurmi Local Government Area, Hon Moses Maihankali thanked the Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas for setting up the Committee to look into the effects of the crisis and possible ways of preventing future occurrence, pledging the support of the people of the area to the government of the day.
According to the Council Chairman, what happened that led to wanton destruction of properties in the area is regrettable and unfortunate, assuring that every security measure will be put in place to check future occurrences.
Also speaking, some members of the community appreciated the Taskforce Committee for the visit which they said has given them a sense of belonging and a clear indication that they have a caring and listening Governor in Dr Agbu Kefas.
They pledged to cooperate with the Taskforce Committee for it to succeed in the task given to them, assuring that going forward, they will avoid anything that will bring pains to inhabitants of the area.
