Bauchi State University trains Academic Staff On Excellence, Character, Learning

In her determination to Promote and enhance teaching and Research in line with the global system,the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University Bauchí,, Professor Fatimah Tahir, has described the crucial role academic staff play in ensuring academic excellence and upholding the standards of the university as life wire.

Professor Tahir made the remarks at the opening of a 3-day seminar organized by the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance for academic staff of the university.

The seminar, which was held at the 500 Seating Capacity Lecture Theater of the main campus in Gadau, attracted 75 participants from various departments of the university.

According to Professor Tahir, academic staff are the backbone of the university, and their caliber is reflected in the output of the institution.

While describing academic staff as life wire of every University and that their caliber reflects the output of the institution, Prof.Tahir said “Whatever the output of the university is, it is a reflection of the caliber of staff, especially academic staff that the university has,” .

She informed that the quality of academic staff is evident in the quality of graduates the university produces, adding that academic staff are responsible for molding the character of students, which is why certificates carry both character and learning.

The VC commended the Directorate of Academic Planning of the University for initiating the seminar, which she described as an orientation for new staff members.

She said, “The seminar is expected to be done when new recruitment are made especially when we have those coming to the university for the first time or from other universities.”

Tahir urged the participants to make the best use of the opportunity to enhance their Capacity, skills and knowledge as it is a World Class Seminar.

In his remarks, the Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Aliyu, emphasized the importance of the seminar in achieving the university’s mission of academic excellence.

He noted that the seminar would cover key areas such as teaching, research, community service, and university administration.

Dr. Aliyu urged participants to be open-minded and receptive to new ideas, saying that the seminar would serve as an eye-opener for them.

He thanked the Vice Chancellor for her unwavering support towards conducting the workshop and for her numerous efforts towards ensuring academic excellence in the university.

“The seminar is part of the university’s efforts to enhance the capacity of its academic staff and ensure that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to confront any challenge and deliver high-quality education in the institution” he said.

Dr. Aliyu announced that in continuation of this efforts and commitment, the University has concluded plans for similar seminar scheduled to hold at the Yuli Campus in Bauchí on February 17, with an additional 75 participants, bringing the total number of globally trained Academic staff of the University to 150.
