Bauchi State Launches Tree Planting Initiative to Reward Farmers

The Bauchi State Government has introduced a new incentive to reward farmers who plant trees on their farmlands as part of its Green Revolution initiative, aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability.
Governor Bala Mohammed announced the measure during the launch of the 2025 Annual Tree Planting Campaign in Dass Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the initiative seeks to restore degraded lands and secure a greener future for coming generations.
Emphasizing the need for collective action, Governor Mohammed urged residents to take responsibility for environmental protection, asserting that Bauchi State must lead the Green Revolution.
He instructed the State Ministry of Housing and Environment to expand the campaign to all 20 local government areas, citing concerns over rapid deforestation at the grassroots level.
The Governor also called on traditional leaders, religious institutions, and individuals to support the government’s efforts by promoting tree planting and ensuring the survival of newly planted trees.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Ahmed Kawule, reiterated the ministry’s dedication to environmental conservation, noting that trained personnel have been deployed to ensure the success of this year’s campaign.
Additionally, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, State Project Coordinator of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), revealed that approximately 40,000 hectares of land have already been restored through the project in partnership with the state government.
He stressed the importance of monitoring the planted trees to achieve the campaign’s long-term objectives.
