Bauchi reviews Health Workers condition of service

Bauchi State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with relevant stakeholders in the health sector for the upward review of conditions of service for its personnel.

This was disclosed by the Head of Civil Service, Barrister Muhammad Sani Umar during a brief meeting with health stakeholders where he described the signing of the MoU as a reflection of a long-standing welfare need in the health sector, which had spanned several decades.

Barrister Umar stated that the agreement marks the beginning of the implementation of salary increments and improved welfare packages for health personnel across Bauchi State.

He recalled that since the inception of the present administration under Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, there has been a clear mandate that “No health worker in Nigeria will be better than a health worker in Bauchi State, saying, health workers in the state will now enjoy equal entitlements with their counterparts at the federal level.

The Head of Service appreciated the dedication and cooperation of relevant stakeholders, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Joint health Workers Union (JOHESU), Permanent Secretaries, the State and Local Government Auditors-General and the Accountant-General of the state.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam, noted that the present administration has prioritized the health sector, allocating nearly 20% of the state’s budget to the sector.

He described the signed MoU as a game changer that will significantly transform the health system in the state, considering the vital role of health personnel in societal development.

He called on health workers to reciprocate the government’s commitment by redoubling their efforts, assuring that the State Executive Council will ensure strict monitoring and evaluation of their activities.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Dauda Shuaibu commended the state government for its concern for workers welfare and pledged their continued support towards the overall development of the state.
