By Umar Moh’d

The Bauchi State Muslim Parliament has observed that the use of security forces in trying to do away with series of insecurity in the country may not be the best option rather the use of persuasive communication strategies especially through dialogue.

The spokesperson of the parliament, Engr Ahmad Yusuf while addressing Journalists over the weekend at the NUJ Secretariat Bauchi, observed that Nigeria could be on a pathway to address insecurity not just through military might, but more importantly through dialogue, economic empowerment and community reconciliation.

He explained that it is through the use of these strategies that the insecurity which has claimed lives of innocent citizens in the country will work effectively as done in the Niger Delta region, which has ended the decades insecurity in the area.

Engr. Ahmad Yusuf therefore accepted the advice of security experts and analysts that Nigeria’s complex security threats require both kinetic and non-kinetic responses.

Engr Ahmad supported the security strategies initiated by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Security, Senator Shehu Buba Umar as a panacea to the current insecurity problems engulfing the nation with no recipe for solution in sight.

According to the parliament, it is this government’s approach of blending dialogue with appropriate forces in the transformation of the security situation to bring about lasting peace and tranquility to the Nigerian state, hence the parliament advocacy of peace and conflict resolution through initiatives and endeavors from any quarters of the country.

“We equally stand to unequivocally condemn those who engage in smear campaign and image-tarnishing against the Chairman Senate Committee on security, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the senator representing Bauchi South senatorial district. We take this principled stand, believing that as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence, it is a position that requires utmost trust and integrity.” He added

The Bauchi Muslim Parliament holds the believe that Senator Shehu Buba Umar would not play politics or get involved as to betray the trust of discharging the responsibilities of his office with diligence and cautious care.

“Would the Federal Establishment and the Presidency look the other way, while a Senator plays with the very fundamentals of the nation’s peace and security single-handedly? We firmly believe he has the approval of relevant agencies and critical stake-holders to pursue the noble objectives of dialogue and engagement for reconciliation with all segments of the society involved in infringing the nation’s peace and unleashing havoc, destruction and reckless killings”. He said

He warned that allegations, accusations and smear campaigns against Senator Shehu Buba are a clear example of character assassination, and an attempt to distract people from his achievements and undermine the trust his constituents have placed in him, thereby depriving the nation of his invaluable contributions to the country.

The spokesperson of the Parliament stated that they are representing the voice of Islam and defend muslim communities within the length and breadth of the country, with the concern for the nation to know and understand the facts, and dispel misrepresentation on matters concerning the communities, and the personality of their representative in the National Assembly, saying they are in support of bringing lasting solution to the general insecurity in the country without tarnishing the image of any citizen.
