Bauchi Govt To Take Over Abandoned Steyr Nigeria Limited, Create Jobs for Skilled and Unskilled Youths

By Abbas Usman, Bauchi

In its determination to boost the State economy, the Bauchi State Government under the under Governor Bala Mohammed on Monday 21st July 2025, took over full ownership of the long abandoned Steyr Nigeria Limited, after paying N1.5 billion to claim the facility aimed at revitalizing the industrial area to resume developmental activities.

Governor Bala Mohammed made this known during the formal handover of the facility at Government House Bauchi where he informed that the state has also cleared all outstanding entitlements owed to the Bank of Industry BOI.

He expressed dismay that the Steyr Company which in the past was regarded as a beacon of industrial growth in Nigeria, had deteriorated into a hideout for criminal activities and immorality due to years of neglect and mismanagement.

He said discussions are ongoing with investors who have expressed interest in manufacturing agricultural machinery, CNG buses, electric vehicles, and solar-powered tricycles at the facility.

The Chairman of the Reclaiming Committee and Commissioner for Special Duties and Rural Development, Farouk Mustapha commended the Governor’s decision to reclaim the company, considering its economic potential and benefits to the people of Bauchi State.

He assured that at the end of day, thousands of youths both skilled and unskilled will be employed to make them purposeful and enjoy better lives.
