Bauchi Govt to Invest N3B in Four Mega Schools Across Selected Locations

The Bauchi State Government plans to allocate about three billion naira for the construction of four mega schools across its three senatorial districts, aiming to tackle the shortage of classrooms within the state.

Alhaji Adamu Muhammad, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), revealed this in Bauchi.
Adamu Muhammad, who also serves as the District Head of Duguri, indicated that densely populated areas have been earmarked for the construction of these mega schools, in accordance with the guidelines set by donor partners to attract more students.
He detailed that two of the mega schools will be built in the Ibrahim Bako Housing Estate and Filin Kwallon Kobi within the state capital, as well as in the towns of Misau and Azare, based on their population needs.
“All interventions from the 2022/2023 UBEC/SUBEB have been assessed and executed; we are now awaiting the 2024 intervention,” the SUBEB Chairman stated.
Muhammad noted that traditional and religious leaders, along with other key stakeholders, have been consulted regarding the chosen sites for the mega school constructions.
“We have also enlisted the support of traditional and religious leaders in an aggressive campaign to address the issue of out-of-school children, which has seen a significant reduction from 1.7 million to 600,000,” he explained.
He urged the citizens of Bauchi State to support the government’s efforts to minimize the number of out-of-school children to the lowest possible level.
“The media should also play a crucial role in raising awareness about the importance of maintaining the infrastructure provided in public schools,” he added.
Expressing concern, he mentioned that Bauchi State was recently ranked second in the number of out-of-school children.
However, due to the measures implemented, over 1.1 million children have been reintegrated into the classroom.
The SUBEB Chairman urged the public to refrain from vandalizing educational materials aimed at improving teaching and learning in public schools, emphasizing that significant investments have been made to enhance these facilities.
“I want to clarify that the claims suggesting that construction and renovations of schools only occur in urban areas are unfounded.
” Renovations and constructions are taking place in all corners of the state,” he asserted.
