Bauchi Emerges BESS Games Overall Winners

Bauchi state has emerged overall winners of the 2nd edition of the Basic Education School Sports, BESS games with a total of 54 medals from different sporting events.

The host state of the 2025 edition, clinched the first position after securing 19 Gold, 21 silver and 14 bronze medals from various sporting events involving both male and female categories.

During the closing ceremony at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium, yesterday, Governor Bala Mohammed, appreciated UBEC for the confidence reposed in the state to host an event that brought together over 1000 young athletes and officials from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner of Education, Dr Lawal Muhammad Rimin Zayam, acknowledged that the annual event will continue to unite young Nigerians from diverse cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds under sportsmanship, friendships and national integration.

In her speech, the Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba said, the 10 days sporting activities has showcased team work, discipline, talents, determination, sportsmanship and unity among young pupils across the country.

Dr Aisha Garba, represented by a zonal Director, Alhaji Abdullahi Shehu Jarma, thanked Bauchi state Government, NASSOF, SUBEB chairmen and other stakeholders for their support towards the development of education sports in all the schools, stressing that such events will keep nurturing future champions and responsible citizens.

She called on all schools across the federation to take sports as an essential part of education to build healthier, united and brighter children in the society.

Also speaking, the President, National SUBEB sports officers forum NASSOF, Mr Ipede Joseph, commended Bauchi state Government, SUBEB and all the states for the successful hosting of the 2025 BESS games in Bauchi.

According to the final medals table, host Bauchi state came first with 54 medals, followed by Delta with 53 medals, while Kaduna state occupied third position with 23 medals.

The next edition will be hosted by Delta state.
