BASG Signs law to fight Corruption and financial mismanagement

The Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has signed into law the Bauchí State Independent Public Complaints and Accountability Commission bill, with a view to straighten fight against corruption and financial mismanagement in the State.

Governor Bala Mohammed expressed dismay during singing of the bill at Government House, Bauchi, recently, over discovery of financial mismanagement involving some top government officials in the state.

He said the new law will tackle issues of corruption, ghost workers syndrome, misappropriation, and other financial irregularities in the affairs of the state.

The governor explained that, the commission will provide a platform for the public to report complaints and ensure that those in power are held responsible and accountable for their actions.

“The establishment of the commission demonstrates my administration’s resolve to address the issue of corruption, which has long plagued the state”. He said.

The Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, while Presenting the bill, said that the bill is expected to boost public confidence in the government and promote good governance.

He expressed optimism that, the Bauchi State Independent Public Complaints and Accountability Commission will investigate and address various forms of financial mismanagement, including ghost workers syndrome, which has been a perennial challenge for the state.

An investigation by our Correspondent reveals that already there is an existing law that established , the Bauchí State Anti-Corruption Commission which is currently being challenged in the Court now waiting for judgement,hence the need for its replacement with the signed bill.
