ATBU: NUC Gives Green Light for Establishment of 3 Additional Faculties and 56 Departments

By Abubakar Hardawa

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the creation of three new Faculties housing a total of 56 diverse departments at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi.

These new Faculties include Computing, Dentistry, and Allied Health Sciences.

The disclosure was made by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, as conveyed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappah.

Furthermore, NUC has sanctioned the accreditation of 21 academic programmes, along with all the courses provided at the 7 Colleges of Education and Polytechnics affiliated to the University. The approvals are seen as part of ATBU’s continuous pursuit of academic excellence.

Additionally, all nine courses offered at the World Bank-supported Sustainable Procurement, Environmental, and Social Standards Enhancement Projects – Center of Excellence (SPESSE-CE) have received full accreditation.

While the University initially sought accreditation for 25 courses, 21 were fully accredited, three received interim accreditation, and Urban and Regional Planning was denied accreditation.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kunya, has pledged to address any issue hindering the Urban and Regional Planning department’s accreditation.

ATBU has made all necessary preparations for the smooth establishment of the new Faculties and departments.

Notably, the University recently launched academic activities in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the current academic session.
