APPEAL COURT UPHOLDS HIGH COURT JUDGEMENT, AWARDS 152 HECTARES TO SULEIMAN DAUDA IN GIREI LGA

By Fidelis Jockthan.

The Court of Appeal in Yola, the Adamawa state Capital has affirmed the judgment of the State High Court, awarding ownership of approximately 152 hectares of land in Girei Local Government Area of the state to one Suleiman Dauda, a resident of Hayin-gada.

The Judgement, delivered on Monday, August 11, 2025 by Justice F.O. Ohor, dismissed the appeal filed by the Ministry of Land and Survey, Yola, and two others, upholding the earlier decision of Justice Musa Usman on March 30, 2023, in Suit No. ADY/68/2020).

The disputed land, located at Hayin Gada, Modire Ward, borders a mountain, waterway, a professor’s residence, and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) facility.

The High Court’s measurements—800 steps by 1,900 steps—were reaffirmed by the appellate court.

Suleiman Dauda’s lead counsel, J J Akor , while speaking to our Correspondent hailed the verdict as a landmark victory for the common man.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the appellants’ counsel, U.J. Konleganyiga, (Director of Civil Litigation, Adamawa State Ministry of Justice) to comment on the matter, were unsuccessful.

This ruling solidifies Dauda’s claim, ending a prolonged legal battle over the prime property.
