ADAMAWA LAWMAKER, MACKONDO TURBANED AS ‘Tallafin Waja’ IN GOMBEBy Fidelis Jockthan
The Member representing Numan Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Chief Dr. Pwamakeino Mackondo, has been conferred with the traditional title of ‘Tallafin Waja’ by the Waja Traditional Council in Gombe State.

The investiture ceremony, which took place at the palace of the Paramount Ruler, the Bala’a Waja, His Royal Highness Mohammed D. Moh’d, was a colourful event marked by cultural dances and pageantry.
The Royal father, who also serves as the Chairman of the Waja Traditional Council, had first notified the Adamawa lawmaker of the honour in a letter dated October 3rd.
In his address, the revered monarch praised Chief Mackondo for his philanthropic efforts and goodwill, which he stated have positively impacted his chiefdom and the wider Gombe State.
The event served to strengthen the historical and cultural bonds between Gombe and Adamawa States, particularly the shared heritage between the Waja people of Gombe and the Bwatiye people of Adamawa.
The ceremony was well-attended by a high-powered delegation of lawmakers from Adamawa, colleagues from the Balanga and Shongom constituencies in Gombe, friends, and well-wishers.
A renowned female title holder in Gombe state, Chief Grace Alheri Garba (Kwalliyar Kamo), described the honour as “well-deserved.”

In a congratulatory message issued in Yola, she described Mackondo as “an experienced lawmaker with a wide social and legislative disposition, coupled with philanthropy and goodwill.”
She also offered prayers for his political aspiration to represent the Numan, Lamurde, and Demsa federal constituency in the National Assembly.
Similarly, the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) in a statement by its Secretary, Pastor Gon Friday, felicitated with the lawmaker on the chieftaincy title.
A close associate of the honoree, Mr. Iliya, expressed his delight, stating, “I cherish the symbiotic relationship between the people of Adamawa and Gombe States.
When he called me about the honour, I thought it was a joke, not until we reached the palace and saw a mammoth crowd. It seems Honourable Mackondo has established a good relationship between the two states.”
Chief Mackondo is known for his interventions in community development projects, including portable water supply, electrification, scholarships, and youth empowerment, which have also benefited communities in neighbouring Gombe State.
