ACReSAL Partners FAO To Restore Lands in Taraba

The Federal and Taraba State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) are partnering the Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO, a United Nations Agency to address climate challenges and restore lands in the State with fibre products.

The FAO Team Lead, Dr. Precious Agbesor announced this during the Teams inspection/community engagement tour in Yerima and Namnai communities of Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

He noted that while they are committed to the project, the communities are central to its implementation, urging the District Heads of Yerima, Mallam Muhammed Suleiman and that of Namnai, Mallam Musa Salisu to continue to enlighten their subjects on the need to support the project.

Also speaking, Dr Ruth Oghale of the ACReSAL Federal Project Management Unit, appreciated the communities for embracing the project, saying while the project is a long term one, the eventual economic benefits are enormous.

She therefore tasked the community members to improvise indigenous knowledge and practices that are helpful for the sustainability of the project

Dr Ruth Oghale also advised them to reintroduce the plantation of economic trees like mangoes, oranges, guava, cashews and many others, stressing that such trees are essential in boosting the economy of the people of the community.

In the meantime, Dr Ruth Oghale has commended the survivor rate of the seedlings at the Yerima afforestation site and recommended post planting measures for effective growth.

On their parts, the District Heads of the two communities applauded ACReSAL and FAO for investing in their communities noting that, they have given their lands in good faith, saying they are committed and dedicated to securing and supporting the project to its full implementation.
