Taraba monarch turbans SDP’s Jabayang, others with Chieftaincy titl

The paramount ruler of the Mumuye nation of Taraba State, the Kpanti Zing, HRH Alh. Suleiman Ibrahim Sambo Thursday, conferred a chieftaincy title on a chieftain and leader of the State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Hon. Innocent Umar Jabayang as the Sarkin Matasan Zing.

The Monarch, while performing the ceremony at his Palace in Zing, headquarters of Zing Local Government Area of the State, said Chieftaincy honours remain one of the mandates of the traditional rulers, noting that such action motivates beneficiaries and spurs them to do more.
According to the traditional ruler, Hon. Jabayang and other beneficiaries have distinguished themselves in various aspects of life and have made great impacts on the lives of the people of the local government.
“The chieftaincy title and award was in acknowledgement and recognition of those who distinguished themselves in their careers and made great impacts on the society”, he said.
Others turbaned were; the chairman, Taraba State Special Task Force Committee on Environmental Protection, Public Safety and Prohibition of Deforestation who doubles as the Executive Chairman, Taraba State Internal Revenue Service, Brigadier General Faransa Aliyu Jeremiah (Rtd) as Makaman Zing, the State Commissioner for Social Justice and Re-integration Hon.
(Dr) Filister Irarimam Musa as the Yar Amanar Zing and the State Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, who is also the chairperson State steering committee, ACReSAL, Haj. Aishatu Barde who was turbaned as Zinariyan Mumuyewa.

In an interview with Journalists shortly, Hon. Jabayang expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Kpanti Zing, the traditional council and the entire people of the local government for what he described as a remarkable recognition conferred on him.
On the mammoth crowd of Mumuye sons and daughters who came out to witness his turbaning ceremony, hon. Umar said, “I am not surprised because my people have me at heart, I have touched so many lives of my people”,
“I have given employment to a lot of people, not only at the local government level, the state level but at the Federal Government level”,
“I have executed so many projects to Zing people, I have done Empowerment programmes and I have given scholarship awards to as many students as possible in Zing”.
Hon. Innocent Umar Jabayang who was also turbaned as Kpanti Jesan I of Yezing also told Reporters that he was a candidate of SDP in the 2023 National Assembly election where he contested for the post of House of Representatives to represent Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency of the State.
On his fate as 2027 general election approaches, he stated, “All depends on my people, if they suggest that I contest for Governorship position, I will contest, if Senate or House of Representatives, I will contest. It all depends on my people”.
Members of the State Executive council, lawmakers from the state Assembly, relations and friends of the celebrants graced the occasion.
The ceremony was climaxed with various cultural displays and dances from the Mumuye, wurkun and Jenjo people of the State.
