93 Physically Challenged persons get Support of Wheelchairs From Yola Catholic Diocese

In a heartwarming display of solidarity and support, the Yola Catholic Diocese, in partnership with the Knights of Columbus, has provided 93 wheelchairs to physically challenged persons in Adamawa State.
This commendable initiative under the leadership of Stephen Dami Mamza, the Bishop of Yola Catholic Diocese, is a testament to the Catholic Church’s commitment to caring for the vulnerable and marginalized.
Speaking at the event, Mamza thanked the Knights of Columbus for providing 93 wheelchairs for the people living with disabilities.
Recalling the event that led to the support, the bishop said,
“We had a lady at Salama Housing where we build for the Internally Displaced Persons. The lady was being carried around in a wheelbarrow. Seeing her situation moves me, and that is what led to today’s wheelchair distribution. These wheelchairs, shipped from the United States, are of high quality and will significantly improve the lives of the recipients,”.
The collaboration with the Knights of Columbus, a U.S based charity organisation, has enabled the diocese to provide vital support to these 93 individuals.
Dami stated that the Knights of Columbus has a long history of advocating for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities, and their partnership with the Yola Catholic Diocese has been instrumental in making this initiative a success.
“This support is crucial, as people living with disabilities often face significant challenges in accessing basic necessities, education, and employment opportunities”.
He also called on the government to double their efforts in the inclusion and support for the people living with disabilities.
John Anthony, one of the beneficiaries, appreciated the efforts being made in making life easy them, adding that undoubtedly it will go a long way in promoting their well-being, empowerment and integration into society.
“I am happy to receive this wheelchair, which will make movement much easier. I sincerely appreciate Bishop Mamza for always standing by the physically challenged people in the state. People need to understand that anyone with a disability who lacks mobility faces double disadvantages.
“But now that we have this, life will be much easier for us. We call on the government to emulate this gesture and support us as well.”
