2025 Defense Training Conference: Minister Calls for Future-Ready Armed Forces

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru has declared open the 2025 edition of the Defence Training Conference with a resounding call for performance-oriented, future-driven training for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to a Press Release by the Personal Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Defense Minister, Mati Ali, the conference, themed “Performance-Oriented Training and Trends in the Contemporary Operating Environment,” brought together high-ranking military officers, policymakers, defence experts, and international partners.
The event was held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, where the Minister emphasized that the complex and evolving nature of Nigeria’s security landscape demands a shift from conventional training approaches to dynamic, technology-integrated, and mission-focused strategies.
“We are no longer fighting yesterday’s wars. The threats we face today are asymmetric, borderless, and technologically advanced. Our training must reflect this new reality,” the Minister declared.
Highlighting the Ministry of Defence’s strategic direction, the Minister outlined key areas of focus, including the modernization of training facilities, integration of cyber and space capabilities, joint inter-agency and international exercises, and enhanced cooperation with global military institutions.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to investing in the human element of national defence through improved welfare, leadership development, and psychological resilience of personnel.
The Minister urged conference participants to engage deeply with critical issues, such as leveraging simulation technology, building modular training systems, and strengthening civil-military relations to support national development.
He applauded the Defence Headquarters for organizing the event and commended the Armed Forces for their continued commitment to professionalism and national service.
“The 2025 Defence Training Conference must not end in theory. It should drive actionable outcomes that enhance operational effectiveness both at home and abroad,” the Minister concluded.
The event marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s pursuit of a more adaptable, technologically capable, and strategically aligned military force.
