2024 Farming Season: Gov. Kefas gives Gashaka LG 1,200 Bags of Fertilizer – Chairman

The Chairman of Gashaka local government area of Taraba State, Hon. Umar Yusuf has lauded Governor Agbu Kefas for supporting farmers in the State particularly, Gashaka local government council in this year’s farming season.
Hon. Yusuf who expressed joy over the Governor’s concern on the plights of the people of the State especially those at the grassroot level said Dr. Kefas gave a total of one thousand, two hundred (1,200) bags of fertilizer to Gashaka local government to enhance their farming activities in this year’s cropping season.
The local government boss, who spoke to Reporters this Weekend in Jalingo said the bags of fertilizer would be sold at subsidized rates to farmers across the council area.
Inview of the above stated, Hon. Umar reiterated the need for the people of the area to show more commitment in their farming activities so as to justify the Governor’s gesture and also to make sure they provide what to feed themselves with.
“We are supposed to do our best in making sure that we feed ourselves before the government will come to assist in other areas”, he said.
Describing Dr. Agbu Kefas as God-sent to the people of the State, Hon. Yusuf emphasized that the Governor is God fearing and somebody who has the people of the State at heart.
“You can see recently, he gave food items to all Chairmen of the sixteen Local government areas of the State to distribute to their people”,
“In Gashaka local government, he gave us eight hundred (800) bags of assorted types of food items and that has gone along way in softening the hardships of the people and I want to tell you that our people are grateful over the Governor’s gesture and generosity to them”, he added.
The Chairman used the forum to highlight poor road network as the major challenge farmers in the local government area face.
He said some roads linking the local government headquarters with other villages need to be maintained saying, ‘the roads are not motorable’.
“Maidanu, Gayam-Gangumi, Garbabi, Jauro Janu and Mayo selbe, farmers in these areas find it difficult to bring their food items to the local government headquarters due to poor road network”,
“There are a lot of farmers in the above stated communities but lack of access road has posed a challenge to their farming activities”,
“We are calling on the government to come to our aid by doing something on our roads so that farmers in the rural areas will freely perform their farming activities and have access to their local government headquarters”, he said.
Another area of great concern to Gashaka people was the issue of insecurity where hon Umar commended Governor Kefas, the Emir of Gashaka, HRH, Alh. (Dr) Zubairu Hamman Gabdo, the security operatives and critical Stakeholders in the local government.
He pointed out that anytime security meetings were scheduled, critical Stakeholders from the area don’t waste time, they quickly respond without delay.
Hon. Umar also talked about the influx of herders to the area explaining that they come with their cows and don’t respect any body.
“The herders living with us are co-existing peacefully with our farmers but the problems we are having are those coming from outside with their cows”, he said.
On Governor Kefas’ achievements for the past one year, Hon. Umar cited the declaration of free primary and secondary school fees, slashing of school fees of students of tertiary Institutions across the State, among others.
