Enforce Peace Accord Between Rigangun, Wadaku and Tsobo Communities – Pene Da Bwatiye Appeals To Adamawa Govt

The Pene Da Bwatiye Development Association, PDBDA Worldwide has reacted to a recent social media publication capable of threatening the peace accord signed between the Bwatiye communities of Rigangun and Wadaku on one hand and Tsobo community on the other.

In a Press Release titled “A CALL FOR CALM AND ADHERENCE TO THE PEACE ACCORD”, signed by Chief James Dickson Iliya, President and Mr Emmanuel Pwakavi Bapatu, Secretary General of the Association in that order, BDBDA said it “writes with profound reverence and deep concern regarding the inflammatory content, captioned “Understanding peace, love and respect”, recently published by Dan Tsobo TV and widely disseminated across social media platforms, including versions translated into the Hausa Language.
“We view this development with utter bewilderment and as a direct affront to constituted authority. This is especially so considering the recent signing of a peace accord between the Bwatiye communities of Rigangun and Waduku on one hand, and the Tsobo Community on the other. This accord represented a critical step towards reconciliation and lasting stability”.
PDBDA stressed that typically, it prefers to operate through quiet diplomacy to deescalate tension and return the communities to peaceful coexistence, while trusting that relevant authorities would thoroughly investigate the root causes of this dispute and address them appropriately.
PDBDA recalled that it actively intervened in the dispute on the 8th of July, 2025, where it publicly called for and appealed for calm and dialogue.
It however, regrettably, the appeal was not heeded and the situation escalated, leading to losses and the imposition of curfew by the Adamawa State Government.
“The signing of the aforementioned peace accord by all communities involved, to the PDBDA, reflected a commitment to maintain peace while sustainable solutions are sought.
“It is therefore unfortunate that the terms of this accord are now being disrespected and efforts to malign others have been shifted to the volatile arena of social media, where it is being fueled by seemingly egoistic questions and incitive threats. Such rhetorics are ill winds that will blow no good.
“Rather, they will only undermine the fragile peace in the affected communities and potentially stall efforts to build a more lasting peace for our peoples. This must not be allowed to continue”.
Consequently, the PDBDA is therefore urgently calling on the Adamawa State Government to strengthen and enforce the existing peace accord to ensure all parties adhere to their commitments, introduce robust checks and balances to maintain the status quo ante and
prevent any party from taking actions that could alter the situation on the
ground.
The Association equally wants the Government to act swiftly to de-escalate the online rhetoric and hold accountable those who use social media to spread misinformation and incite violence.
“We urge all communities involved to exercise maximum restraint, embrace the path of dialogue, and support the procedural efforts started to find a just and lasting resolution to this matter.
“Peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the active presence of justice, dialogue, and mutual respect. Let us all choose that path”.
